This would involve purchasing or leasing the house, possibly by agreeing a Community Right to Buy, and restoring it for a variety of uses.
Current ideas include: a heritage centre; function rooms; café; art gallery; artists’ studios and physiotherapy rooms, allotments. These uses would benefit the community, create jobs and generate income, to support the house as well as for local businesses, and allow members of the community access to this magnificent house and stunning, tranquil gardens.

THE COMMUNITY RIGHT TO BUY – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Cockenzie House Heritage Group is looking for your support to register a Community Right to Buy for Cockenzie House. Some of the most frequently-asked questions are answered below.
What is the Community Right to Buy?
Community Right to Buy is a legal process which allows communities to register an interest in a property. If and when the property is offered for sale, the Community is given the first opportunity to purchase it.
How do we register a Community Right to Buy?
A local group, called the Community Body, must be formed and must demonstrate that at least 10% of the Community supports the Right to Buy. That is why CHHG needs to know the level of interest in Cockenzie House among people living in Cockenzie and Port Seton.
If I sign, will I have to help pay for Cockenzie House?
No. By signing, all you are doing is agreeing in principle that the Community should be given the chance to raise funds to purchase Cockenzie House for the use of the whole Community.
What happens next?
Registering a Community Right to Buy does not place an obligation on the Community to buy the property if it goes on sale. It just gives us the chance to raise funds.
How do I sign the community right to buy register?
